To make our sweet and creamy homemade strawberry milk, all you'll need is unsweetened almond milk, fresh strawberries, and some soft & sweet medjool dates.
This recipe is easy, simple, delicious and nutritious.

We choose to make our own strawberry milk as this avoids the artificial flavors and sugars you find in the store-bought versions. And by using nutritious ingredients, it provides a range of health benefits as well as being incredibly delicious. Not to mention that this is such an easy recipe, it only takes a couple of minutes to make, and the kids can get involved too!

What you'll need
Ingredients
- Almond Milk - You can choose store bought or homemade almond milk. If choosing the store-bought option, I recommend using one with as few ingredients as possible. Plenish Almond Milk for example only contains organic almonds, water and sea salt. If you prefer to make your own, hhhh and hhhh have some great recipes to try.
- Fresh strawberries - We use fresh berries but frozen work just fine. It mostly comes down to what we have available at the time.
- Medjool dates - We use these for a touch of sweetness, but you technically don't need them if you have in-season strawberries, as they should be sweet enough. However, we like it sweeter, so we always pop them in. If you aren't a fan of dates, or simple don't have any, check you substitutions and variations section a little lower down in this post.
- Ice cubes - for serving it up nice and cold. Totally optional, but worth it if you have them.
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Equipment
High-speed blender - If you have a regular blender, that will work fine, I would however recommend straining the milk through a nut milk bag or muslin cloth before serving. This will remove any tiny bits not broken down in the blender, which will help give you a nice smooth silky texture.
How to make homemade strawberry milk
- Step 1: Slice the tops off your strawberries
- Step 2: De-stone your dates (remove the stones from the centres).
- Step 3: Add all your ingredients to the belnder.
- Step 4. Turn your blender to full speed and blend for 1 minute.
Serve and enjoy immediately, or pour the milk into a bottle or jug for storing in the fridge.
Hint: Use cold milk and strawberries from the fridge. And if you have ice cubes, pop a couple into your glass when serving to make your milk extra refreshing.
Substitutions and variations
Substitutions
- Almond milk - Assuming you'd like to avoid dairy products, any dairy-free milk will do. Oat milk, cashew milk and soy milk are great options as they have a more creamy texture compared to others.
- Strawberries - You can use any other fresh fruit! or even frozen. It's so easy to get creative with this recipe. Blackberries, raspberries and blackcurrants are fun alternatives.
- Medjool dates - You can sub these for some maple syrup. Just swap all 3 dates for 2 tbsps maple syrup. If you have any other natural sweeteners such as agave syrup, date syrup or honey, you could also use those. The date syrup may alter the colour slightly and the honey will change the taste a little, but it'll still be tasty.
Variations
- Flavors - As mentioned above, any type of fruit would work, it's up to you how adventurous you fancy being. If you prefer to stick to the classic flavors though, you can switch the strawberries out for 2 ripe bananas, or add 2 tbsps cacao powder.
- Vanilla extract - I sometimes add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for a pop of flavor.
- Peanut butter - PBJ flavour milk sounds fun! Try adding 2 tbsps of smooth peanut to the blender along with the other ingredients prior to mixing.
- Protein - You can boost the protein content by using 1-2 tbsps hemp seeds or chia seeds. They're a great way to add in some healthy fats, which are essential for our rapidly growing kids.
Storage
Store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Shake well before serving.
Top tip
Serve this nice and cold by adding a few ice cubes to your glass after pouring.
